Adult Sailing Program
The Cohasset Sailing Club (CSC) offers an adult sailing program exclusively for Cohasset residents aged 18 and older. We provide two levels of instruction: Learn to Sail and Adult Refresher classes.
Learn to Sail
Our beginner-friendly Learn to Sail program is designed for individuals new to the sport or those returning after a long break. Experienced instructors will guide you through the basics of sailing with hands-on experience in our 14' Quests. These boats, also used in our youth programs, are wide and forgiving, providing an ideal learning platform.
The program consists of eight sessions, conveniently scheduled on Saturdays:
- Morning Sessions (9:00 AM - 12:00 PM): The first four lessons are scheduled in the morning to take advantage of calmer winds, facilitating an easier learning environment for beginners.
- Afternoon Sessions (1:00 PM - 4:00 PM): The following four sessions occur in the afternoon to expose participants to moderately stronger winds, preparing you for a variety of sailing conditions.
By the program's conclusion, you will be equipped to confidently navigate Cohasset's inner and outer harbors, either solo or with friends and family.
Adult Refresher Course
The Cohasset Sailing Club offers an Adult Refresher Course designed for individuals who have completed a Learn to Sail program or possess prior sailing experience but haven't been on the water recently. This course is an excellent way to refresh your knowledge of sailing fundamentals and update your practical skills in a supportive environment.
What to Expect
Our experienced instructors provide personalized guidance tailored to your ability. They will assist you with rigging a Quest - the same sailboats used in our youth program - and offer support as needed, whether by sailing alongside you, trailing in a safety whaler, or supervising from shore.
The primary goal is to help you build the confidence required to pass the Helmsman Test.
Passing this test grants you access to use the Club’s Quests independently with friends and family, and feel confident crewing on larger day sailers.
Registration and Schedule
Registration is flexible; you may sign up for only the class dates you wish to attend. Due to small class sizes and customized instruction, each session provides a near-private lesson experience.
